Personal Bio:
I started running when I was 11 years old and in the late 70’s and early 80’s got sucked into the running boom and all of the road races back then. Had a decent high school career and ran in college for a little bit at Truman State. I ran my first marathon in Chicago very undertrained with my lifelong buddy in the early 90’s and got hooked again. I ran my marathon PR in Chicago in 1998 in 2:47.
I have gotten the privilege of watching my wife complete several marathons and watching my kids Madison and Matthew compete in track and cross country and build lifelong friends just as I have had the privilege of doing.
In 2023, 30 years from my first attempt in Chicago and 25 years after my marathon PR and 25 marathons later I ran 2:57 in Chicago as part of the Abbott World age group marathon championships. Proud to have ran sub 3 in each of the last 4 decades.
I have transitioned into more of a half marathoner over the last decade as my favorite but will end up racing about anything. I have a great group of people that I train with and I love the community that comes with running. I volunteer at our kids summer track program, have certified a bunch of race courses (because accuracy matters), spend time chasing state age records and you can usually catch me watching track meets (local or in Eugene or on TV) if I am not running or most likely talking about running (or running shoes). Hope to stay healthy and keep going as long as I can and enjoy this gift of running.
