USA Half Marathon Championships

The KC Smoke joined Olympians Abda Abdiraham, Kara Goucher and a host of other elite athletes for the 2012 Usa Half Marathon Championships in Duluth, MN on Saturday.

Abdiraham and Goucher won the men's and women's races, respectively, with smoking-fast times of 1:02:46 and 1:09:46.

Pictured here in downtown Dulth are Smoke members Ken Moran, Aaron Hohn, Rikki Hacker, Aaron Davidson, and David Franz.

For the Smoke, it was Aaron Davidson leading the way with a 1:09:42, good for 64th overall in the star-studded field. Next up were Aaron Hohn and David Franz in 1:12:20 and 1:15:20. Ken Moran, competing in his 5th half marathon in two months, was 6th place master with a 1:19:19. Finally,  Melissa Todd cruised to a 1:18:34 performance, good for 39th place among women.

American Miler Series

Mike Hernandez kept things going in the 1500m on Saturday, lowering his PR once again. This time it was at the American Milers Series at IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This event was filled with elite athletes, including many chasing the Olympic dream in 2012. Mike's 1500m featured 13 athletes running USA Olympic Trials A/B standards, including 4 Olympic B standards and 1 Olympic A standard by the winner Jeff See in 3:35.21

Mike's personal best effort of 3:51.26 was good for 9th overall in his section.

Missouri State Senior Games

The Smoke's Liz Kyger got it done at the Missouri State Senior Games in Columbia June 8-10.

Liz won 4 state titles in the F50 age group, breaking 3 state records in the process.

Her results include:
5000m – 21:57 – breaking previous state record by 49 seconds
1500m – 5:52 – breaking previous state record by 28 seconds 
800m – 2:55 – breaking previous state record by 3 seconds
10,000m – 48:53 – just missing the state record by 11 seconds

 Finally…

Kory Cool got his USATF Club Championships qualifier on Sunday by running a tough 9:53 solo effort in the 3000m steeplechase at a USATF Missouri Valley meet held at William Jewell.

And Eric Graham continued his comeback lowering his mile time to 4:45 at the KC Corporate Challenge track meet on June 5, good for the silver medal in the M30 age group.
